Grasslands
Grasses provide us with cereals, a staple part of our diet. They are the dominant vegetation over vast areas of the world. They are too indigestible and tough for most herbivores, but the herds of horses and cattle and other mammals that do manage to feed on them keep the grasslands free of trees.
