Ocean travel was once the preserve of the wealthy, but over the last 40 years the business has boomed. In 1980, 500, 000 people went on a cruise, by 2019 that figure hit 30 million. Then Covid-19 shut the whole industry down overnight. Kate Quilton explores the boom years , the collapse and also considers the future for what was once a £100-billion business.
