Taboo and transgression in Rebecca.
Du Maurier's novel is shot through with taboo subjects - everything from incest, inappropriae age relationships and the physical facts of death, to female sexuality and behaviour. The author explores these, throwing light on how they are used and how we might view them from a contemporary pespective.
