Living amphibian jewels from Madagascar
Madagascar is home to approximately 311 currently known species of amphibian, and herpetologists believe there are probably another 200 still to be described and officially recognised by science. Among these species are some of the most beautiful and intriguing frogs in the world, forming the Mantella genus. Specialist Joshua Ralph, who works with these amphibians both in the wild and also in breeding collections, discusses their natural history, behaviour, care and more in the first of a series of articles about them.
