Soil biodiversity is critical to life on Earth. Microorganisms, worms and mites in the soil work together to decompose organic matter and release nutrients for plant growth. Plant communities, such as the crops we rely on for food, benefit from the services these organisms provide, as does the climate itself. But soil organisms are under threat from climate change.
