Racism: responding to the Stephen Lawrence case
Stephen Lawrence was brutally murdered on Thursday 22 April 1993 in an obviously cowardly, unprovoked racist attack in Eltham, Southeast London. He was twice viciously stabbed and left to die in the street. He was black. His attackers were white. Despite prolonged investigations, an aborted public prosecution and an attempted private prosecution, no one has been convicted of his murder or any involvement in the attack on him. It must be devastating for his family - but also a matter for real public concern - that murderers escape punishment and are free to kill again - or are free at all.
