Notes

The American writer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou crammed more into each decade than most people manage in a lifetime. Before she wrote her memoir I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings, she worked as a stripper and a singer, travelled the world as a dancer in Porgy and Bess and campaigned for Martin Luther King. Before she died in 2014, she gave a final interview in which she's as spirited and big hearted as ever.
