It isn't Jay Gatsby for whom wealth does not provide happiness. The characters who seem to have it all - Daisy, Tom and the narrator, Nick - also fail to find fulfilment. The author argues that their priviledged family backgrounds, far from setting them up for success, are a root cause of this.
