Antibodies are produced by B cells - a type of immune cell - to fight infection, but they can also be manufactured outside the body and used as drugs to treat diseases. In this article the author describes how a discovery that enabled the production of a single type of antibody in the laboratory has grown into a multi-billion-dollar business.
